Volunteering in the South Downs

I am Ian Hartle, Volunteer Co-ordinator with the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA). I work with colleagues and partner organisations in co-ordinating and developing the work of volunteers in the National Park.

 

We already work very closely with members of the South Downs Volunteer Ranger Service (VRS), who chose to affiliate to the SDNPA when it was set up. We are now looking at how best we can develop our support for volunteering more broadly across the National Park as well as for the VRS.

 

At the moment, we are carrying out a review to build a picture of the full range of other volunteering activities that take place throughout the National Park and to look at what potential there is to develop more, particularly those that support the National Park’s purposes.

 

As part of the review we are approaching a range of organisations that already have help from volunteers, to find out about the scope of volunteering activities, but we are keen to hear from other forum members on the topic as well.

I volunteer for the South Downs Society and the Sussex Lowland Search and Rescue, but have always got time for something else.

I volunteer for the South Downs Society, at present they are keeping me a bit busy.  I have interests in enhancement and conservation of the built and natural environment of SDNPA.
