Isn't it a bit odd that the national park authority are advertising jobs promoting sustainable transport in the park which are based in Midhurst.  It would be impossible for many people doing the job to get to work in a sustainable fashion and or to travel round the park in a sustainable way.  You can't expect people to change their behavior if you don't make changes yourself

Yes ... have often wondered what SDNP HQ car park looks like but never dared to say it Chris

Midhurst is pretty much in the middle of the park. The dire lack of sustainable transport in this country is not the fault of the SDNPA.
I'd be keen to hear your alternatives to Midhurst.

While the state of public transport is not the fault of the SDNP, if it is trying to promote the use of it then it needs to put its money where its mouth is.  I would have thought anywhere with easy access to a railway station would be a lot better.  I'd be interested to know what system of refunding travel costs the park has and how this supports sustainability.

I agree that a site near a railway station would be much better, but you can get the #60 bus (normally wheelchair accessible) from Chichester rail station to Midhurst.

I realise that I'm always batting on about Amberley, but it is the half way point of the South Downs Way (what could be more central in The Park) AND it has a railway station.

Yes .... Chris and others have put a lot of voluntary effort into sustainable transport around Sussex ... many thanks Chris.

Drove Fully Accessible Charity buses for 6 years before becoming a cripple myself .... now member of Disabled Ramblers ....

Unfortunately any expedition out of the house now takes some planning .... have 7 sets of "wheels" to get around ranging from a "Rollator" through to a WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle).

Any off-road excursion will certainly need a heavy "Class 3" Mobility Scooter (see photo) which is banned from most Public Transport .... South West Trains limit access to light weight scooters ... bus and taxi drivers are a law unto themselves.

Disabled Ramblers classify tracks 1 to 4 according to difficulty ... Cissbury Ring at the moment is Grade 3 but NT have kindly a RADAR Red Padlock on the Eastern Pass Gate .... track from there to Chanctonbury is almost impossible thanks to deep washed out ruts.

Attended meeting in Pulborough Village Hall last week thinking light-weight chair would cope ... front step a stopper, aisles too narrow and toilet too small ... lot of help from other visitors ...

Smart Bus Technology is brilliant for those who can use it .... long distance (X22) bus service from Eastbourne to Winchester via Midhurst would make journey planning much easier ...

How is that ?
